Dominic Michaelis: Founder/Director

After graduating in architecture from Cambridge, and obtaining an MSc in structural engineering from Cornell, Dominic began his career with Arup Associates and Piano Rogers.

He then went on to set up his own practice to which he linked a consultancy, Solar Energy Developments, designing a number of built solar projects including:

Individual solar houses across the UK and Europe, passive and active solar heating for low cost apartment blocks in Pisa and Siena for IACP, an evaporative cooled house in Marrakech and 5 health centres in Mali, built of pisé walls, a Polytechnic in Barbados, where inclined hollow roofs are used to create natural air conditioning, and a solar factory office building in Stockport (UK) that won an RIBA award.

He also worked with Noor-Web, Morocco, to established a network of village photovoltaic battery recharging centres for the agricultural communities not served by the grid.

Dominic patented
